On my way home from the ‘living life from this place’ retreat run by the WHEL UK, something interesting happened. Due to road closure and a stubborn Satnav I was home almost 2 hours later than projected. As I drove those winding roads ignoring my satnav and following diversion signs, I reflected on the significance of detours in our lives.
Sometimes we are adjusted and conditioned to one way of life when detour signs suddenly appear. Warnings such as a sudden illness, a bereavement, unexpected loss or buried pain that is desperately demanding attention.
I was not able to find my way home until I began following the diversions signal and ignore the urge to take a ‘quicker’ route with the satnav. If you are faced with an unexpected event or is forced to deal with the memories that you hope would stay buried. The only way out is to follow the signs, allow yourself to grieve that loss, seek help for the bereavement and pain of the past.
It might take you a while to get back on the road home. However, you will arrive armed with; a better awareness of yourself and the satisfaction that comes from identifying and dealing with challenging situations. Furthermore, you will obtain peace as a result of processing pain and secure freedom from past hurt.
